As far as
backpacker bars go i have a lot of time for this one. Its located at
the top of Russel st right near the start of Lygon st and the massive Trades hall building, which is pretty hard to miss. When i
first saw this bar i was a bit put off by the very modern lighting and
sleek decor but they have the back packer bar recipe nailed.
Start with
pizza and pot of beer for 7.50 with the food actually being done very well and as good as you'd get anywhere.
Throw in pool table, foozball, great smoking area and a very switched
on bar manager and your getting somewhere Its located below space
hotel so it gets lots of back packers and guest coming down.
Wednesday and Sat are super cheap drinks like
ten buck jugs, 4.5 pints and 5 basic. The "pocket change" pizza deal is run daily until 9. Then for the very brave or very drunk they have a wet shirt contest once a month, which is truly crazy fun. I went last week and it was like something from the movie Animal house. Both guys and girls getting doused with ice water on stage by a girl dressed in a Pikachu
Onesey.
If you're
after a cheap but good night out start here. Back packers always drink
late and are chatty folk.
