cherry bar
Down acdc lane of all places right in the heart of the city is one of the last true rock bars in Melbourne. Cherry has been rocking for more than ten years and has become and centre for bands, dudes with beards and leather jackets and a kind of funky smell when you walk in. It's one of the few places that should allow smoking inside and it would smell better but that its charm.
Beers and spirits are the order of the day and of course shots of jäger. They have different themed nights most nights so after the live bands you can jump around to some black metal or swing by in a Sunday for some live blues and eat some free chilli.
It's open late most nights and a great place to take your friends if they want to dance to some real music and aren't too precious. As mentioned they have lots of live gigs and have a great stage at the front but the music nights are some of the best because they are rare in Melbourne. Most nightclubs you hit will be playing r and b but if your lucky enough to meet and girl or boy who actually wants to let loose to hard rock, metal or punk you should bring them here.
Their is a small cover charge most nights and tho they are open late they are pretty strict on people staggering in so if your planning a late night visit take it easy or you'll be left outside. Speaking of outside the smoking area is the alleyway next to the bar which fills up like a club of its own and is a great place to meet cool people who rock.
