Fathers Office is a great Melbourne bar which is starting to become somewhat of an icon. It's done in 1920's prohibition era style. With bookshelves, leather seats and a truly excellent balcony area with heaters and loads of beer barrels for tables.
It's open nice and late most nights, they have drink specials every night, with five dollar Dos Equix. They have a very big food menu and a separate restaurant section if you feeling like sitting down to a full meal before drinking the night away. The balcony has a fantastic view of the city and is still nice a warm with all of the heaters and hidden areas to escape the wind.

This place can be nice a quiet and then go to being super busy on Friday and Saturday nights. It's fairly well known to most people living in the city and does get very busy with the after work crowd. This is the sort of place you can very easily have a great night and end up coming back again and again. It's also really good for larger groups because it's just so damned big.
If you live in the city you really need to visit this great bar and get it into your regular nightly wanderings.
